Former Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation lightweight champion Dennis Laurente of the Philippines has scored a big win over undefeated Yuki Yushizawa at the famed Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan, Tuesday.
The 28 year old Laurente who lost the OPBF title to Chikashi Inada via a split decision last March was coming off a first round TKO win over Stack Poncogaty at the RCTI television studios in Jakarta last June 7.
Laurente and manager Johnny Elorde were scheduled to arrive from Tokyo last night after what was described as a tough battle in which one judge scored it a draw, 96-96 while the two other judges had Laurente the winner by scores of 96-95nand 98-93.
Laurente improved to 23-2-5 with 12 knockouts while the 20 year old Ishizawa dropped to 13-1, with 5 KO’s. Elorde indicated that Laurente is in line for a rematch against Inada later this year.
