According to a recent story on Boxingtalk.com, the IBF is ordering a junior middleweight elimination bout between Sechew Powell and Deandre Latimore. The winner would become the mandatory challenger to champion Cornelius "K9" Bundrage. K9 defeated Powell by unanimous decision in June.
Latimore and Powell have already fought twice with each fighter picking up a victory. Latimore knocked out Powell in 7 rounds in their first meeting in 2008. Powell evened the score when he won a majority decision last year.
The article stated that both fighters have already agreed to the eliminator and that it would most likely take place this year. Latimore advised BoxingScene that the eliminator was news to him and that he wasn't interested in the bout.
"This is the first that I heard that. I haven't agreed to this elimination bout. Why would I fight Powell again? I don't know what my promoters are thinking. First they said I was fighting Vanes Martirosyan. Then they said I was fighting Erilsandy Lara or (Nikola) Stevanovic and now I read Powell," stated Latimore.
Latimore, who served as one of Floyd Mayweather's chief sparring partners for his fight against Victor Ortiz, went on to say that he hopes to land a meaningful fight soon.
