At the Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez, California, cruiserweight prospect Lateef Kayode (15-0, 14KOs) got a tougher than expected challenge from Ed Perry (18-5-2, 11KOs). For the first few rounds, Kayode and Perry were trading big punches. Perry was able to take the hard shots on the chin, but he couldn't handle to hooks to the body. He went down from a shot to the body in the fourth, and then went down for the full count from a body/head combo in the sixth round.
Luis Franco (8-0, 5KOs) captured the vacant WBO NABO featherweight title with an eight round disqualification win over Eric Hunter (15-2, 8KOs). It was a very dirty fight from the start of the first round. Hunter was throwing repeated low blows in every round, and using his head at certain points. It was miracle that only a single point was taken in the second round. By the eight, the ref had seen enough and called the fight after Hunter landed yet another low blow. Franco was well ahead in the fight at the time of the stoppage.
