Cosmopolitan Resort and Casino, Las Vegas - Undefeated Cuban prospect Erislandy Lara (15-0-1) battled tough Mexican veteran Carlos Molina (17-4-2) to a majority draw in their junior middleweight bout that was this evening's main event on the latest edition of ESPN Friday Night Fights.
Molina felt he did enough to earn the victory. The veteran told the media, "I thought I did well. I could have done better but I thought I did enough to win a split decision."
Lara conversely felt that he did enough to win. He admitted that he had a tough time with the awkward Molina but felt that he was ahead comfortably on the scorecards.
"I'm not disappointed. I had an off night but I still thought I won 7 rounds. He was very unconventional and made me miss with my left hand. (After this performance) Maybe someone will fight me now," Lara told the media.
Lara had won his previous four fights via 1st round knockout. Molina later would say that he would have no problem facing the former Cuban amateur standout in a rematch.
"I would fight him again or anyone else. It doesn't matter. They thought they would knock me out in the first round. I knew they wouldn't."
