Former WBO heavyweight champ Lamon Brewster has agreed in principle to headline a big event in Swindon next February. According to the Swindon Advertiser, Swindon-based trainer Paddy Fitzpatrick met with Brewster last week in Los Angeles to discuss the event.
“Lamon was discussing the possibility of coming over to the UK and putting on a show and they were talking about Manchester or maybe Ireland, and I just said ‘why not Swindon?’ A top 10 heavyweight fighting in Manchester or London is already going on - but fighting in Swindon is really going to generate some interest," Fitzpatrick said. “We’re looking to put on a huge event over the whole weekend. A concert and the weigh-in on the Friday, the fight card on the Saturday and then a big VIP party.”
Brewster returns to action on November 29 against another former heavyweight champion, Bruce Seldon. Fitzpatrick says the only way the February event will be derailed is if Brewster receives an offer for a high profile bout on HBO.
