It’s last call for Golden Boy Promotions’ fight series on Fox Sports and its affiliate networks. On the heels of the final installment of ‘Golden Boy Live’ having aired Tuesday on Fox Sports 2 and Fox Deportes, its last Fox-related event takes place Thursday, July 2 at Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles.
Headlining the ‘L.A. Fight Club’ card—which airs live on Fox Deportes (Thursday, 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. local time)—resurgent junior welterweight takes on late sub Hevinson Herrera. Both fighters made weight for their scheduled 10-round affair; Gonzalez (24-3, 20KOs) tipped the scales at 139.4 lbs., while Herrera weighed in at 139 lbs.
Herrera (18-10-1, 12KOs) is a late replacement for unbeaten prospect John Karl Sosa, who was scratched from the show earlier this week due to an undisclosed illness.
Gonzalez comes in riding a six-fight win streak, including an upset knockout win over previously unbeaten Jeffrey Fontanez last summer. Thursday’s main event marks his first career bout outside of his native Mexico.
The card marks the end of the latest deal enjoyed between Golden Boy and Fox Sports, with the network’s services recently acquired by Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions series. The entrants have rotated between mid-level shows as part of the ‘Golden Boy Live’ series and more prospect-based events such as Thursday’s ‘L.A. Fight Club’ installment.
