The head of Main Events, Kathy Duva - who promotes unified light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev - read with some amusement the latest comments from WBC 175-pound champion Adonis Stevenson, who stated that he would be willing to face Kovalev now or after his fall showdown against Andre Ward.
"I am here and waiting. All they have to do is just call Al Haymon. Al is going to negotiate the fight and do everything. Just call him. For me it is not a problem to fight either of them," Stevenson told BoxingScene.com.
"The problem is Kovalev. We offer him 50-50 and he doesn't take it so now I am not going to waste my time with that. Just call Al Haymon and he can make it happen."
To which Duva responded (via text on Wednesday evening) - "When I offered the fight to Yvon (Michel) for June at 50/50, I carefully explained that if Adonis passed on the deal and the Ward fight happens, as planned, in November, that 50/50 ship would be sail forever. Looks like it already left the dock.
''We will be announcing Sergey's next fight on Saturday in L.A.''
Representatives of Main Events will be in town this weekend as Gennady Golovkin faces Dominick on HBO from the Forum in Inglewood, California.
As Duva mentioned Kovalev and Ward are scheduled to meet in November but both have the option of taking another fight before they meet.
