BoxingScene.com recently spoke with Egis Klimas who represents various fighters including WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (23-0-1, 21KOs). Klimas said that their preference is to unify titles with WBC light heayweight champion Adonis Stevenson, but admits that fight may not be feasible for Kovalev's next ring appearance.
"Fighting Stevenson is the biggest fight that can be made but we heard he may not fight till June or May," Klimas stated.
Whether or not a deal can be made to face Stevenson, Kovalev plans on being very active in 2014. He fought four times in 2013 and barring injury, the plan remains the same for 2014.
"Stevenson is a big fight. There is no doubt but we are looking to get Sergey in the ring four times in 2014. It could be outside of the country. I am going to Russia to see if we can set up a fight because Sergey became a very big star there. Maybe fight in Russia for one fight. We are talking to HBO to see how many dates we can get from them. There is no question of who we want to fight. The question is who wants to fight us," Klimas told BoxingScene.com.
