Main Events has a huge 2016 planned for light heavyweight stalwart, Sergey Kovalev. There is a planned showdown with Andre Ward for the fall. And Kathy Duva says she is still working on a bout between 'the Krusher' and Adonis Stevenson (who has the last remaining belt in the division not held by Kovalev).
"I had a conversation with Yvon Michel last week. I expect to hear back from him soon," she told BoxingScene.com on Tuesday afternoon. "We've had a contract in front of them now for a few weeks and we're anxious to see if they're willing to go with it. We believe that we included the terms that they were asking for and we're waiting to hear back. I think Yvon wants to do the fight very much. It's really in the hands of Adonis and Al (Haymon) now."
The plan is for this clash - should it come to fruition - to take place in the month of June.
But we've been down this road before. Just how close are they this time around?
Duva admitted,"I'm not sure. Yvon's a good promoter, he knows we can seal this and I believe that too. We talked about all the terms and we had no problem agreeing on all of this. It really comes down to: does Adonis want to take the deal? And that's something I can't decide. If it were up to me ad Yvon, yeah, I'd feel like we'd have this fight done by now and we'd have everything signed but it's not.
"So in the end Yvon's in line - as far as I can tell - I am, Sergey Kovalev, everybody has agreed. The only person that has to say yes at this point is Adonis Stevenson."
