This past Saturday night in Germany, WBA 'regular' light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer (45-2, 33KOs) made a statement by scoring a knockout victory in less than a minute of the first round of usually durable Polish contender Pawel Glazewski.
The WBA's super champion at 175-pounds is Sergey Kovalev (26-0-1, 23KOs), who also holds the WBO and IBF titles.
BoxingScene.com reported earlier today that Braehmer will return on March 21st in Rostock. Kovalev returns a week earlier, against Jean Pascal.
One has to wonder if WBA will eventually order a mandatory battle between their two champions, as they eventually do.
Promoter Wilfried Sauerland of Sauerland Event, who represent the interests of Braehmer, believe that fight will head to a purse bid and many heavy financial hitters will be involved.
Sauerland believes the WBA will order that fight by May or June of next year.
"Most likely the fate of this battle will be decided at the purse bid. I'm positive a pure bid for [that fight] will be attended by the Russians, and maybe some of them even offering 20 million dollars [to secure the rights," Sauerland told Sportbox.
