Two-time world amateur champion Matt Korobov of Russia is looking to get back in position for a world title fight in 2016.
He makes his return on October 24th in Omaha against Mexican contender Jose Ovando in an eight round contest to shake off the rust. The card will be headlined by Terence Crawford defending his WBO junior welterweight championship against Dierry Jean.
The fight will be the first for Korobov (24-1, 14KOs) since suffering the knockout loss to Andy Lee last December in Las Vegas. Korobov was winning the contest up until the moment he got caught with a big hook from Lee in the sixth round.
Korobov has been frustrated by the inactivity and says he was even considering the possibility of breaking away from his career promoter Top Rank.
"I was ready to return to the ring before October," said Korobov. "But the promoters did not give me a fight. I even considered the possibility of terminating our relationship, but in the end everything was resolved. By the end of the year I want to have two fights and we're planning to go after a title in 2016."
