Romulo Koasicha enjoyed a successful debut on Telemundo, twice flooring Guillermo Avila en route to a 7th round stoppage Friday evening in Mexico City.
The action was furious but one-sided, as Koasicha's non-stop pressure led to knockdowns in rounds five and seven. Avila was under siege and no longer able to defend himself when the bout was stopped just prior to the end of round seven.
Koasicha improves to 25-4 (15KOs) with the win, his fourth straight since a decision loss to Lee Selby - now a featherweight titlist - last May. Avila's three-fight win streak comes to an end as he falls to 15-4 (12KOs).
UNDERCARD
In the chief supporting bout, Roberto Pucheta scored an upset win over Telemundo regular Martin 'Pini' Casillas. Scores were 78-74 across the board in their eight-round bantamweight bout.
Rafael Lopez enjoyed a successful pro debut, scoring a second round knockout of Esteban Zambrano. A left hook floored Zambrano (1-1, 1KO) midway through round two, with a follow-up barrage producing the stoppage win for Lopez (1-0, 1KO), a local 19-year old lightweight making his pro debut.
