Fritz Zdunek, who trains WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko, has a strategy planned out to take away the biggest weapon in Tomasz Adamek's closet - speed. Zdunek spoke with veteran reporter Alexander Pavlov and gave his thoughts on Klitschko's defense against Adamek, taking place on Saturday before 42,000 fans in Poland.
As part of the strategy, Klitschko lost a few pounds to add more speed to his own movements. They are going to place a lot of pressure on Adamek to slow him down.
"This time Vitali had to lose weight because he is going to fight against a very fast boxer," said Zdunek. "We worked a lot on endurance. Vitali is in great physical and psychological condition. We worked with five sparring partners who were very fast. Vitali did well with them. In addition, we practiced throwing a tennis ball, and more."
"Adamek will rely on his speed, and he's going to move quickly around the ring and try to swoop in on Vitali with punches. But we are ready. Our task, is to apply constant pressure - and in doing this we will make Adamek slow down. We have analyzed hiss fight against Michael Grant."
Adamek's trainer, Roger Bloodworth, has trained his boxer to avoid Vitali's right hand. Zdunek says the left is just as deadly.
"But he still has the left. I think [Adamek] should be afraid of the punches coming from both of Klitschko's hands."
