Former division rule Wladimir Klitschko insists he has made the necessary “upgrades” to help him defeat Anthony Joshua (18-0, 18 KOs) in their Wembley showdown.
The 41-year-old will make his return to the ring following a 17-month absence when he takes on the unbeaten IBF champion in front of 90,000 fans at Wembley Stadium on April 29 with the vacant IBO, WBA ‘super’ belts also on the line.
Klitschko is currently training in Austria and will become the second oldest fighter to win the world heavyweight championship if he’s successful in London.
Klitschko has been out of the ring since losing a shocking twelve round decision to big underdog Tyson Fury back in November 2015. The outcome was viewed by most experts as the 2015 'Upset of The Year.' Attempts to schedule the rematch were dashed aside when Fury withdrew from the contest on two occasions.
“There’s so many things, even at this stage of my career, that is being upgraded. So, it’s getting better and more exciting,” the former two-time world heavyweight champion told Sky Sports.
“I am happy about it and I am very fortunate. I’ve been working for it for a long time and things happen for a reason. I am happy about having AJ as my opponent because AJ needs me and I need AJ to make this event happen.
“It’s simple as this, I just want to win my next fight and to show to myself that I can do it. I know that I can do it.
“I have been doing it for such a long, long time, so the end of the fight is going to be, and I’m focused on this, positive for me where I am going to raise my hands and hold the titles.
“That’s my passion, that’s my obsession and I want to show to myself that I’ve still got it.”
