San Juan, Puerto Rico- A real boxing feast took place today in San Juan, but not necessarily between twelve ropes and a ring. Quite the contrary, this feast was the result of an extremely amicable and relaxed meeting held between three well known fighters that have obtained belts raking them as WBO Super Champions.

In a fortunate coincidence of time and space, the WBO Heavyweight Champion, Wladimir Klitschko reunited today with WBO Super Champion Oscar De la Hoya and WBO Junior Flyweight, Iván Calderón, during a visit the former made to a municipal gym located in Caimito, a ward in the southern part of San Juan. In said gym, De la Hoya is currently training for his upcoming bout against Steve Forbes scheduled for May 3, 2008.

Klitschko arrived in Puerto Rico last Sunday for a short 3-day trip to receive the WBO Super Champion belt, an activity that will take place on March 25, 2008 in the Centro Sor Isolina Ferré in Ponce, one of centers the WBO Kids Drug Free Program donates to every year. It will be a great surprise as not only will Klitschko receive the belt, but will also have a birthday bash with the disenfranchised children of the center.

The atmosphere in the gym while the three seasoned fighters talked informally and shared tips to throw down opponents in the ring, seemed more like an meeting between longtime friends that haven’t seen each other for a while.

During his visit to the San Juan Municipal Gym in Caimito, Klitschko acknowledged the facilities suggesting the possibility of using the gym to train for future bouts. “Because of the weather conditions and the gym, this is the first boxing gym which I see (in Puerto Rico), that is great. I think I can consider Puerto Rico for the next training”, stated Klitschko regarding a possible training period on the Island.

Afterwards Klitschko traveled along with the WBO President, Francisco “Paco” Valcárcel to El Legado Golf Resort in the municipality of Guayama, in the southeastern part of Puerto Rico to have a relaxed afternoon playing golf, embraced by the warm temperatures of the region. At El Legado Golf Resort, Klitschko met Puerto Rican golf legend Chi Chi Rodríguez, owner of the golf course.

Klitschko will depart from Puerto Rico in a flight to NYC Wednesday early in the morning.
