IBF/WBO/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko confessed that he really wanted to knock Eddie Chambers out so that no one would call their fight boring. The Ukrainian’s trainer Emanuel Steward also insisted on the early end of the fight.
“I’m happy that I was able to finish the fight with the knockout”, - told Wladimir to Sportbox.ru reporter Alexander Pavlov. – “My opponent was very fast. After the 10th or 11th round my trainer Emanuel Steward began to insist on the early ending of the fight."
"He shouted: 'You must hit him! Knock him out!' If I hadn’t knocked Chambers out, a lot of people would have called this fight boring. But I proved that in the heavyweight you mustn’t lose concentration even for a moment. After the sixth round I had deja vu. I felt that this is the repeating of the bout with Ibragimov. After round 4 or 6 Chambers completely ended any resistance. He shut down in defense and tried to survive and not to get knocked out. The most difficult is to fight a man who avoids all your punches. But I’m glad with the result I achieved."
At the post-fight, Klitschko said he wants to fight WBA champion David Haye.
"I told Vitali I would fight Haye and if he cares about having title belts in the house I told him I will give him Haye's afterwards," Wladimir said. "I would prefer to fight him in a soccer arena but I would also face him in a car park if necessary. Maybe even this year. We have good chances of setting this fight up."
