The WBC heavyweight champion, Vitali Klitschko, was informed that Shannon Briggs remains in a Hamburg hospital after their contest on Saturday. Klitschko gave Briggs a terrible beating in the twelve round contest, resulting in a concussion and several facial fractures. Klitschko praised Briggs for his heart in being able to survive the twelve rounds of punishment and hopes he returns very soon to the ring.
"I found out that Briggs was taken to hospital. I hope that the injuries he received are not life threatening. I hope that the worst has already happened and that he will be fine from here. I wish for Briggs to recover and to continue to perform in the ring. He is a great fighter, and is able to put on a great show. And I wish him all the best," Klitschko told Alexander Pavlov.
