Callum Smith will be out of action until next year after picking up an injury.
The British super middleweight champion had been set for a showcase appearance on the undercard of Tyson Fury’s world heavyweight title challenge against Wladimir Klitschko on November 28 at the ESPRIT Arena in Düsseldorf.
But it has been revealed that the 25-year-old, who took just 165 seconds to claim the domestic trinket with a stoppage of Rocky Fielding at the Echo Arena in Liverpool earlier this month, has sustained a minor niggle in his hand which will put him on the sidelines until 2016.
Promoter Eddie Hearn, who was in awe of ‘Mundo’ after his dazzling display against Fielding and called the showing “phenomenal,” is believed to still be hopeful of getting another Matchroom fighter on the Germany card, which is being co-promoted by K2 and Hennessy Sports.
