Promoter Don King says former WBC heavyweight champion Samuel Peter can bounce back in a strong way after suffering the first stoppage loss of his career to Vitali Klitschko. Two weeks ago in Germany, Peter was dominated by Klitschko for eight rounds and was unable to come out for the ninth.
King says the people of Nigera cannot turn their backs on Peter. He says the "Nigerian Nightmare" still has the ability to regain the heavyweight title, but needs the support of his people to do it.
“I’m sure Peter would bounce back and I’m ready to help him,” King told This Day . “But he (Peter) also needs the support of all Nigerians including that of President Musa Yar’Adua, Vice President Goodluck Jonathan and the Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Godswill Akpabio."
“We have to rally behind Peter now and I know he can have a quick shot at the heavyweight title if we do our home work well. I don’t give up easily and I won’t give up on Peter because I know he has what it takes to rule the world. What we need is for all of us to work together to ensure that Peter has the chance to fight in Nigeria next time.”
