Kiko Martínez has been regaining some of the confidence lost after his stunning second round knockout defeat to Scott Quigg in July.
The Alicante man (35-6, 26 KOs) has fought three times in less than two months with two stoppage victories along the way. Now it seems he could be back in the title hunt, this time for the European belt at super bantamweight. According to a member of Maravilla Box, his promoter, Martínez may be in line to face Liverpool’s James ‘Jazza’ Dickens (21-1, 6 KOs) in March or April of 2016. Gavin McDonnell recently relinquished the title for which Dickens is the mandatory challenger, while Martínez finds himself in the number one contender position.
“We want to make Kiko’s fight for the European belt happen in his original hometown of Elche but it may be more realistic to go to England, especially because of television,” the source told BoxingScene.com.
Dickens himself has been in good form since his 2013 loss to Kid Galahad. The southpaw has won five in a row including a split decision victory over Martin Ward in his last outing in November.
