Amir Khan has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sports Board Punjab (SBP) for establishing a boxing academy in Lahore. The MoU was signed between Khan and SBP Director General here at National Hockey Stadium on Sunday.
The international standard boxing academy will be built in Nishtar Park Sports Complex where the British boxer will train young Pakistani boxers. The academy will start functioning in July 2015.
Speaking a press conference, Amir said that Pakistan has immense flair of boxing and with proper training, they can make significant achievements at international level.
“Pakistani youth has great potential and they are capable to clinch medals in Olympics and other major events as they used to win medals in the past in mega events. With standard training and proper grooming, they will again start earning medals at international level,” said Khan.
Amir promised to make boxing a popular sport of Pakistan in next five years. He said every youngster would be welcomed in his academy who has interest in the sport.
“If the youngsters work hard with commitment and apply whatever they will be taught, they will start winning medals in near future. There will certainly be a noticeable difference in Pakistan boxing after the academy starts functioning,” said Khan.
To a question, Amir said that if experience of Lahore academy remained successful, he would establish boxing academies in Islamabad and Karachi.
