The WBA have announced on their website that Amir Khan, their regular light-welterweight champion, is to face Marcos Maidana, their interim champion (or one of them), after the fighters reached an agreement.  The contest was due to go to purse bids but now looks set to take place in March or April.

Early reports suggested the fight would take place on the undercard of Roy Jones versus Bernard Hopkins ‘Help the aged (and chinny)’ card on the 17th of April yet this seems unlikely as HBO will probably stack this scintillating Senior Citizens match up with an anodyne undercard and use Khan-Maidana for a later/earlier date.

Whatever, it now seems that Khan will take on his mandatory and the 'Khan is ducking Maidana' cries will die down a little bit.  Khan, and trainer Freddie Roach (who was wary about taking this fight), now have to work on dodging the Argentine's crude swings.
