Amir Khan (31-4, 19KOs) is getting eager to close the chapter on his domestic rivalry with IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-0, 25KOs).
The two boxers were in talks to face each other earlier this year. Khan broke away from their discussions and signed an agreement to face then WBC middleweight champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez at a catch-weight of 155-pounds. Khan started strong, but he eventually got caught and was knocked out in the sixth round.
Brook is following his lead on September 10th, when he moves up in weight by 13-pounds to challenge WBA/IBO/IBF/WBC middleweight king Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin at the O2 Arena in London.
Khan is impressed with Brook's willingness to face Golovkin at the full middleweight limit of 160, but he expects him to lose the contest. The Bolton boxer admits that he hates Brook and is willing to fight him in the future.
Khan is currently the mandatory challenger to WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia and plans to pursue that avenue at the start of next year. Garcia will fight again on September 24th, potentially against Andre Berto.
“I have to give him props for taking that fight. It’s a very hard fight so I give him a lot of credit. He can win…... well actually no I don’t think he can. Certainly I still think a fight between myself and Kell will happen because he has proven himself now by being willing to step into the ring with Golovkin," Khan told Dubai Press.
“I still don’t like him, in fact I hate him. But the UK public want to see that fight and it is a fight I would like to give them.”
