WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan is back home and had some time to review last Saturday's fight with Marcos Maidana. Khan felt the scores were too close. The British star was able to survive a deadly tenth round to win a unanimous decision after twelve. Khan says he was never seriously hurt by any of the punches from Maidana in the tenth.
"The judges had it a lot closer than it should have been. When I saw the fight, I thought I won convincingly. He was hitting me with a lot of shots on my defence. I was landing the cleaner shots on him," Khan told The Sun.
"Maidana hit me with his best shot and it didn't hurt me. When he caught me with that shot, I knew exactly where I was. I was under pressure but I came back and showed heart."
Khan has a lot of targets on his list for 2011. The next fight is going to take place in April and the MEN Arena in Manchester has been mentioned as the possible venue. The opponent being mentioned is former champion Zab Judah, who Khan wants to fight. Besides Judah, Khan wants the winner of January's unification between Devon Alexander and Tim Bradley, a year-end battle with Floyd Mayweather Jr., and a revenge rematch with Breidis Prescott, who knocked Khan out in 54 seconds in 2008.
"I want to go for the top guys. The Mayweather fight may be the end of next year, after two more fights. I'm sure the next fight in the UK will be even bigger - either in Manchester or London. Wherever I fight will be a sellout. I'd like to fight the winner of Devon Alexander and Tim Bradley and there's Zab Judah. The idea of revenge over Prescott is always there as well," Khan said.
