WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan thinks he could have become the first man to stop Juan Manuel Marquez if the two of them locked up in the ring. Marquez withdrew from their negotiations, claiming their mutual promoter Golden Boy Promotions was trying to use him as a stepping stone to build the name of Khan in the United States.

"Malignaggi was the first choice, but he pulled out and then they went for Marquez," Khan explained to Sky Sports. "I think I could have been the first man to knock Marquez out. That would definitely have made a statement because he went the distance with Floyd Mayweather."

Now Khan will take on Paulie Malignaggi on May 15 at the WaMu Theater in New York City. Khan thinks he can knock Malignaggi out by breaking him down as the fight goes on and finishing him off in the late rounds.

"But now it's Malignaggi again and I think I can take him out. He has got an awkward style, but I think I have the speed to deal with it, to break him down and get to him in the later rounds," Khan said.
