WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan is near the end of his training camp for the unification with IBF champion Zab Judah. The fight happens on July 23 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. If Khan defeats Judah, he would like to face former three division champion Erik Morales at the end of the year. Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, who works with Khan and Morales, recently discussed the possibility of matching them in the fall.
Morales faces British boxer Anthony Crolla on the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Victor Ortiz undercard on September 17 in Las Vegas. Morales would become Khan's final opponent at junior welterweight, as the UK star would then move to 147 to pursue a bout with Mayweather.
“Later this year, I am hoping to fight Erik Morales,” Khan told Reuters. “That would be a big fight for me. He’s a big name over here in the States. From there, maybe I will move up to 147 and try to take on Floyd Mayweather. That’s what we are looking at. You need to have ambitions and my main goal is to fight for the pound-for-pound title. I’ve still got a long, long way to go and I am learning every day and in every fight. But I am getting there slowly.”
