On Saturday, Carl Froch stamped him as a three-time champion in the super middleweight class with a 5th round TKO thrashing over previously unbeaten Lucian Bute.
Fighting in front of his hometown crowd in Nottingham, Froch seemed to take some inspiration from the UK fans who came in droves inside of the Nottingham Arena. Froch simply overwhelmed Bute with his power, forcing referee Earl Brown to call a halt to the action in the fifth round as a helpless Bute was taking far too much punishment along the ropes.
Speaking on his countryman’s performance, Births star and former junior welterweight champion Amir Khan seemed pleasantly surprised as he spoke from ringside moments after the fight.
“It was brilliant,” Khan would state to Sky Sports. “Carl’s performance, what can I say? He just didn’t give Bute a chance. It was just a great performance. What he did in there was amazing. He hurt him with every shot. From the beginning, he beat him to every punch. I’ve never seen Carl start so quick.”
After seeing a May 19th rematch with Lamont Peterson fall apart after Peterson was caught with synthetic testosterone prior to the fight, Khan is now looking at a July 14th date against WBC champion Danny Garcia.
Set to take face off with Garcia inside of the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Khan admits that he is going to be taking some extra motivation from Froch’s resounding showcase.
“Definitely,” Khan would affirm. “British boxing is getting better and better. Carl with a great performance is only going to inspire young fighters and myself.”
