MGM Grand, Las Vegas - BoxingScene.com was advised by Richard Schaefer, CEO for Golden Boy Promotions, that Amir Khan (26-1, 18KOs) and Erik Morales (51-7, 35KOs) could possibly face each other in March - provided both boxers win their next outings. Morales returns later tonight on the Floyd Mayweather-Victor Ortiz undercard, facing Pablo Cesar Cano for the vacant WBC 140-pound title. Khan defends his IBF/WBA titles against mandatory challenger Lamont Peterson on December 10th.
Timothy Bradley, who was stripped of his WBC title over "inactivity," is technically the "champion in recess." Once he resolves the ongoing legal battle with his former promoters, Bradley would like to reclaim his title from Morales, a heavy favorite to beat the inexperienced Cano.
"Amir Khan is going to fight Lamont Peterson in December. [After Peterson] he could have one more fight at 140-pounds, a unification with Erik Morales, or he might move up to welterweight. Amir could fight in the UK [in March] or he might have another fight in the United States, we just have to see," Schaefer told BoxingScene.com.
