Is Floyd "Money" Mayweather looking for yet another big payday with a cross-sport spectacle?
On Monday in Japan, Mayweather took part in a three round exhibition - but he only needed two minutes to bank a first round destruction of Japanese kickboxing phenomenon Tenshin Nasukawa.
Mayweather dropped Nasukawa three times before a lively crowd at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama. After the third knockdown, Nasukawa's corner threw in the towel.
Mayweather, a former five division world champion, made it clear that he still considers himself to be a retired boxer.
"It was all about entertainment. We had fun. I'm still retired. I don't look forward to coming back to boxing but I did this just to entertain the fans in Japan," added the 41-year-old boxer.
"This won't go on my record. This won't go on Tenshin's record. Tenshin is still undefeated. I'm still undefeated. This is just entertainment for the people."
This is the second time Mayweather has been coaxed out of retirement. Last year, he stopped UFC superstar Conor McGregor in the 10th round of a super-hyped boxing match.
And according to Khabib Nurmagomedov’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, Mayweather has been pressing him behind the scenes to make a fight with Khabib
“Me and him have been texting each other for the last month and if he says he did not, I’m gonna put everything online. Do not lie, Floyd. He’s very much begging for the fight. I told him, I said he’s 57 years old, his body’s weak, he’s fragile, he’s got a small head. People think I’m crazy but I think Khabib would beat his ass," Abdelaziz told TMZ.
"He thinks Khabib is easy money but Khabib is much younger, much stronger, more tougher than Conor, a guy that went to the eleventh round with him. And Conor gave up, he’s a quitter. Khabib is no quitter.”
Talk of a Mayweather-Khabib contest first began a few months ago, when Khabib and Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe were both seen in a video where the UFC champion called for a clash with the undefeated boxer.
