Former WBA 'regular' light welterweight champion Khabib Allakhverdiev (19-1, 9 KOs) is seeking for a new career path, according to Allboxing.ru. Rabked #4 by the WBA at 140 lbs, Allakhverdiev has been working with powerful boxing manager/promoter/adviser Vladimir Hryunov for the last three years.
“I want to begin from the very beginning. I’m now a free agent, and I’ll start looking for a new partnership very soon, seeking a team, which helps me get another title opportunity," said the 32-year old.
Allakhverdiev is 4-1, 3 KOs, under Hryunov. In his breakthrough year of 2012, King Khabib consecutively stopped Columbian Ignacio Mendoza (33-6-2) and South African ex-title challenger Kaizer Mabuza (24-8-2) before upsetting previously undefeated Dominican two-division champion Joan Guzman for a vacant WBA “regular” crown.
He defended his title once, stopping another ex-champion Souleymane M’Baye (40-4-1) before running into undefeated prospect Jesse Vargas (23-0), whom he had lost to on a controversial decision last April. He hasn’t fought since.
