Kevin Mitchell is confident ahead of his make-or-break WBO lightweight title eliminator with Breidis Prescott – who hammered Amir Khan in a single round last September. Mitchell, 25, believes that a win over Prescott could pave the way for an inter-promotional showdown with Bolton’s Khan, who holds the WBA light-welterweight title.
Mitchell, who rocks an impressive 29-0 (22) record, told The Daily Express that a battle with Khan would catch the imagination of the British public. “Everyone wants to see me fight Khan,” stated Mitchell.
“Amir was made out to be a superstar, so when Prescott came over and demolished him like he was nothing it made him look like a world-beater. But I fancy demolishing Prescott within 10 rounds. Then I’ll be the superstar. Me against Amir would be a massive fight. We could have it at West Ham in the summer – 35,000 would turn up.”
First, though, Mitchell must overcome Prescott. The 26-year-old Colombian is on a poor run of form since the Khan win, he lost to Miguel Vazquez in his last contest. However, we know that Breidis can punch; Kevin likes to dish it out also; this could be one for the ages if it catches fire.
