WBA super middleweight champ Mikkel Kessler´s planned June 9 defense against Ukrainian Vitaly Tsypko is cancelled. Kessler suffered a cartilage lesion in the left elbow in sparring with Russian Sergey Tatevosyan Monday and will have surgery on May 24.. He is unable to box for 4 weeks due to the injury.
There is going to be what promoter Bettina Palle calls an "alternative plan" announced soon, which most likely means the show will go ahead on June 9 with the likes of Reda Zam Zam, Thomas Damgaard, who´s sparring with EBU 140 lb champ Junior Witter at the moment, and Rudy Markussen on top.
