When Antonio Margarito and his trainer, Javier Capetillo, went before the California State Athletic Commission on Tuesday, for a hearing to deal with a foreign substance that was found in Margarito's hand wraps before his fight with Shane Mosley on January 24 - several of Margarito's former opponents were watching closley. One of those opponents was Kermit Cintron, and his attorney.
Cintron has two devastating knockout defeats on his record, and both came at the hands of Margarito. In 2005 Margarito stopped him in five and the rematch went one round longer last April. Although Margarito's trainer tried to take the full weight of the blame, the CSAC felt otherwise and revoked the licenses of both Margarito and Capetillo.
Though he didn't go into full detail, Cintron hinted at currently exploring his legal options.
"The only thing I can say about Margarito is that I don't have respect for him. If someone has to put something in his wraps to win fights, he is not a good fighter. I am not going to say anything for now. I'm going to stay quiet and leave everything in the hands of my lawyers," Cintron said to Primera Hora .
Cintron is not the only fighter to take shots at Margarito in the press. Miguel Cotto, who is under the same promotional banner [Top Rank] as Margarito, is totally against the idea of Top Rank putting on a show with Margarito in Mexico. In the opinion of Cotto, if Margarito is unable to fight in the United States - then he shouldn't be able to fight in any country.
