Former welterweight champion Kermit Cintron has been at home enjoying time with his family. The 32-year-old last fought on November 26th when he suffered a fifth round knockout loss to WBC junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in Mexico City. Cintron was knocked down in the fourth round and decided to go for broke in the fifth.
"He caught me behind the ear in the second round and I was hurt. My legs were gone," stated Cintron. "After that round I said f**k it, I'm going for the KO, but unfortunately the ref stepped in and stopped the fight."
There has been plenty of speculation as to whether the fighter of Puerto Rican descent will hang up his gloves or decide to continue his career. Cintron said that he is just enjoying the holidays and will announce his intentions next year.
"Boxing is not even on my mind. I would like to get through the holidays and enjoy the time with family."
Cintron has had a roller coaster career. He suffered knockout losses to Alvarez and to Antonio Margarito twice. He also had his career best win over Alfredo Angulo sandwiched between those three losses. Cintron finished our conversation with a message for all of the boxing fans out there.
"To my fans of course there will be disappointment. But that's just life in general. Every successful person has gone through the same sh*t. And that's why successful people are successful. They fall flat on their faces but they get right back up and continue to find a way to reach to the top. For those who keep on talking sh*t, to those naysayers, for those who continue questioning my abilities etc, [you] can go f**k yourselves but at the same time I really appreciate all of the above because with your help I will continue in succeeding."
