Edinburgh’s Kenny Anderson, 27, lost the chance to fight Tony Quigley after the Liverpudlian boxer decided to take part in next month’s Prizefighter: The super-middlweights. However, the 11-0 (7 early) boxer has been assured that his patience will pay off.
“I was invited to enter the same 'Prizefighter' tournament but the £32,000 prize money on offer didn't tempt me. I contacted Board of Control Secretary Robert Smith, and he confirmed that I am now in the frame to have a straight go at Paul Smith,” revealed Anderson when talking to Brian Donald of the Edinburgh Evening News.
A fight between British titleist Smith and EBU incumbent Brian Magee had been mooted only for the bout to fall apart, with both sides claiming that the other is culpable and the fans the real losers; however, Anderson, the current BBBoC Celtic title holder at 168lb, would represent Smith with a good test if the promoters, Hatton Promotions for Anderson and Frank Warren Promotions for Smith, can get their heads together and make the contest.
