Contrary to some of the online reports going around, WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik has not been medically cleared to fight Paul Williams on December 5 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Pavlik's manager Cameron Dunkin spoke with Joe Scalzo of The Vindicator .
“He’s not cleared,” Dunkin said. “Right now, we’re just waiting. As soon as something’s done, you’ll know. There’s too many variables [regarding a Pavlik-Williams bout]. Too many things could change. That’s why the people who know something about it aren’t saying anything.”
Pavlik was seen by a doctor earlier in the week and plans to return to the doctor on either Monday or Tuesday to get the full clearance for the December date. As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, HBO is very interested in placing Pavlik-Williams on December 5, a date reserved for the return of Shane Mosley. If Pavlik-Williams is finalized, Mosley's return would get bumped to December 26.
