Former IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (37-2, 26 KOs) is not completely impressed with the accomplishments of WBC 154-pound champion Jermell Charlo.
Brook made his debut at junior middleweight last weekend, when he knocked out Sergey Rabchenko in two easy rounds.
The victory, due to it being for a WBC regional belt, shot up Brook's ranking with the sanctioning body and position him very close to a fight with Charlo.
Charlo is scheduled to fight again on June 9th in Los Angeles against an opponent to be determined.
Brook feels Charlo has little name value at the moment to make it a big fight, and he's heard talk that current IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence beats him up in camp. Charlo and Spence share the same trainer. Spence knocked out Brook in eleven rounds in May 2017.
"[Charlo is] exciting and explosive. He's a good all-rounder. He's a bit unknown at the minute, his name is not massive, but the hardcore boxing fans know that Charlo's a real champion. He's not a top dog or a lion, I am. I hear that Errol Spence gives him a bit of a hiding in sparring," Brook told Sky Sports.
Brook has rarely fought outside of the UK, but he's willing to return to the United States to face any of the current champions at 154 - if the money made sense.
"If the money made sense, I would fight anyone, anywhere. I fought Gennady Golovkin, nobody would fight him. The fans got me here and I want to provide the best fights for them. Of course I want fights in England, bring them over, and I'm the bigger name. Why couldn't we do that?," Brook said.
"I loved that night in Carson [IBF title win over Shawn Porter]. I would go back. When I was younger, America was the big stage for fighters. But Britain now, we've got a lot of champions, we've taken over. Those big Vegas shows or Madison Square Garden are still there. I would still like to tick that off."
