Former WBO welterweight champion Kell Brook believes David Avanesyan will be a real danger to undefeated rising talent Josh Kelly.

The two were scheduled to fight on March 28, but the contest was canceled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. A new date will be scheduled once the worldwide situation is sorted out and restrictions are lifted.

They were initially scheduled to face each other last year, but Kelly withdrew from the fight with an illness.

Avanesyan has really gotten his career back in order - after capturing the EBU welterweight title by scoring a stunning stoppage of undefeated puncher Kerman Lejarraga in nine rounds. In the rematch, Avanesyan blew away Lejarraga in the first round.

Brook has sparred with Avanesyan in the past and he believes the Russian boxer has become even better in the recent years.

Brook views Kelly as a talented fighter, but he saw issues when the unbeaten Olympian fought to a draw last year with division veteran Ray Robinson.

"I've sparred with the guy and he's a real handful. You can give him some big licks but he keeps coming and he adjusts. He's a gate-keeper to see exactly where you are. And he's got better," Brook told Sky Sports.

"Kelly is an amazing fighter, the skills are unbelievable. He is sharp, he has dummies. His technical ability? You can't hold a candle to him. In the amateurs we have four-round fights. Now it's 12 rounds. Against Robinson we saw him unravelling when it got past five or six rounds.

"You need to be a complete fighter - the heart, the chin, the toughness. You've got to have it all. When the going gets tough and he's questioning himself, has he got it? There's a question mark. Adam Booth is a very good trainer and [he will make Kelly's wrongs into rights]."
