New York- In the last few weeks, much of the discussion for a fight involving Kell Brook (36-0,25 KO’s) was a showdown with Jessie Vargas - which would have unified the WBO and IBF welterweight belts. Vargas and Top Rank told the media that they had signed their part and were waiting on Brook. Those negotiations took a fall

And when Chris Eubank, Jr. reneged on fighting Gennady Golovkin (35-0, 32 KO’s) for the IBO/WBC/WBA/IBF middleweight belts - the door was wide open for Brook to make good on a boast he had previously made earlier this year.

After Amir Khan had signed to fight Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, Brook did multiple interviews where he claimed he was eager to fight fight Gennady Golovkin. He gets his chance on September 10th, when he faces GGG at the O2 Arena in London.

So what’s the difference between Canelo-Khan and Golovkin-Brook in regards to a middleweight fighting a welterweight?

“We all knew his chin is not too great,” Brook told BoxingScene.com regarding Khan's fight with Canelo.

"He got caught with a very good shot. I think you’ll see a different me and Golovkin is a super fighter and he’s going to bring the best out of me. I was killing myself to make 147, my chin is tough, and that’s the difference.

Regards the fallout with Vargas, Brook said, “We were giving him a lot of money. He signed but it was still a little bit of politics, how things are presented aren’t always what they really are behind the scenes.”

Eddie Hearn, Brook’s promoter has stated that Brook is weighing more than Golovkin at the present time. With that said, one would think Brook is leaving the welterweight division. Brook feels that’s not particularly the case.

“I’m still a world champion at 147,” explained Brook. “So wherever the opportunities are is where I want to be. I been injured, fought mandatories, and have not gotten the big fights. I want to give the fans big fights. So wherever that opportunity’s going to be is where I’ll be.”

Brook still wants to give the fans a fight with Khan - even if he defeats Golovkin.

“In the UK the fight with me and Amir Khan is the biggest. As much as he has upset the fans, I want to give the fans what they want. I want them to walk away have them say did you see that fight? That excites me and that’s what a fight with me and Khan would be.”
