If you’re a fan of the boxing, it’s hard not to like Keith “One Time” Thurman. All the man wants to do is get in the ring with the best fighters available and give the fight fans their money’s worth.
The problem is not too many guys are in a rush to get in the ring with Thurman at the moment. Thurman has done a good job of taking care of business and conquering each challenge put in front of him to date. But the Florida native is itching to step in the ring with a big name and he was at the Stub Hub Center Saturday night scouting a possible opponent in the Shawn Porter-Kell Brook match up.
BoxingScene caught up with Thurman and asked the undefeated champion who he would like to get in the ring with next.
“It’s hard when you knock on the door and people don’t want to answer. It’s not like I’m selling Girl Scout cookies here; this is entertainment baby. And it’s always entertaining. You know I’d take Amir Khan. I’d take the winner of [Porter-Brook]. Those are my two options in my heart that I see but the world of boxing is a very funny game and we’ll see what they give me man” Thurman would tell BoxingScene.
Amir Khan just entered the Welterweight division and much like Thurman, he’s looking to get a big fight after he waited a year for Floyd Mayweather only to see Marcos Maidana cut in line and get not just one but two cracks at the pound for pound king.
Thurman is interested in a showdown with the Bolton native and thinks if they fought, Khan would suffer the same fate as all his opponents.
“I see [Khan] circling the ring, using his jab and using his speed trying to get those combos off. And you know it’s going to be a nice fight…till he gets caught one time. I was there when he fought Collazo. He has openings. Collazo is an old veteran that doesn’t have my speed, doesn’t have my power so it would be a terrific fight” said Thurman.
Thurman is looking at an October or November return date but as of now, nothing is concrete and is just waiting to get the call. He’s confident he’ll eventually get the opportunities he’s looking for and will take over the division.
