BoxingScene.com was advised by boxing agent Sampson Lewkowicz, that WBO-interim lightweight champion Michael Katsidis is 100% focused on landing the winner of the upcoming rematch between Juan Manuel Marquez and Juan Diaz, which takes place on July 31 in Las Vegas. Marquez is the full WBO champion at lightweight.
The WBO recently ordered the winner of Marquez-Diaz to fight Katsidis or face the penalty of being stripped. Katsidis is not thinking a jump in weight to fight WBA champion Amir Khan. The tenatative date for Khan's return is exact date of Marquez-Diaz rematch, and Katsidis wants to wait until the outcome of the Marquez-Diaz rematch before making any alternative plans.
"Michael wants the winner of Marquez-Diaz. He is proud of his interim-title and he wants to fight the winner for the full title. If the winner does not fight him, he will be stripped. If Diaz wins, he is gentleman, a man of honor and he will probably be mayor of Houston one day. I am sure that he will fight us if he beats Marquez. But I am not so sure about Marquez because he told us before that he couldn't make 135-pounds and now he's fighting at 135-pounds. We'll see what happens with the rematch and then look at our options," Lewkowicz told BoxingScene.com
