Former junior middleweight champion Kassim Ouma told The Sunday Vision , that his countrymen should not worry about his December 9 bout against the much bigger Jermain Taylor, because he knows that he can beat the middleweight champion.
Ouma did admit to the paper that he is currently working very hard to cut his weight, which he says is currently at 180-pounds. Regardless of the weight issues, he feels very confident of beating Taylor.
“I am currently at 80 kilogrammes (180-pounds) so I’m into a lot of running to reduce the weight. Tell Ugandans not to worry. I can beat Taylor. I actually feel more comfortable against such opponents,” Ouma said.
Ouma is currently sparring with larger fighters in training camp to prepare himself for Taylor's size and strength advantage, fighters like former opponent Kofi Jantuah, Philadelphia light heavyweight Max Alexander (12-1), middleweight Simon “Slick” O’Donnell (6-3), middleweight Tyrone Brunson (13-0) and USBA super-middleweight champion Yusaf Mack (22-1-2).
