The dispute is finally over. A deal has been reached for WBA flyweight champion Daiki Kameda (16-2, 11KOs) to make a title defense against former champion Takefumi Sakata (36-5, 17KOs). The date and the venue has to be worked out. The fight is expected to take place after the summer is over.
Keiichiro Kanehira, the head of Sakata’s Kyoei Boxing Gym, said the two sides have agreed to fight. His gym won the WBA's purse bid a few weeks ago in Las Vegas, but the two sides continued to fight over an old dispute having to do with money.
‘‘As the champion, Daiki made a responsible decision to fight Sakata,’’ Kanehira said to Japan Today. ‘‘The match will be realized with the support of many people in the boxing world."
