The vacant bantamweight "regular" title of the World Boxing Association will definitely be at stake on December 26 when Alexander "Explosivo" Munoz takes on Koki Kameda of Japan. This was officially ruled by the WBA, who consulted the medical advisory committee who recommended that the Venezuelan Lorenzo "Lencho" Parra not fight Kameda after coming in very overweight when he stepped on the scale at his required 30-day weigh-in. Anselmo "Chemito" Moreno is the WBA's "super" champion at bantamweight.
"The boxing commission of Venezuela made the weigh-in within 30-days of the fight, for Parra and Nuñoz. The medical report stated that Munoz met the weight, but not Parra, who was the original first choice to take part in the fight," said Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, director of the WBA.
The report states: "You could assume that Parra did not comply with a proper nutrition plan for a top athlete on his level. Another report says that he wouldn't be physically fit for the set date, and would likely be dehydration."
He recalled that the fight between Parra and Kameda had a pre-agreement, and all documents and examinations were subject for review.
According to Dr. Calvin Inalsingh an active boxer can not be over 5% above his fight weight.
For this reason, said Mendoza, the WBA's decision is based on the local laws where the authority in Japan disqualified Parra for exceeding the pre-weigh-in. Then, "the first option available in the rankings was Muñoz, and Japan accepted him as an opponent."
