Tomoki "El Mexicanito" Kameda (31-1, 19 KOs) is focused on closing his rematch with Jamie McDonnell (26-2-1, 12 KOs) with a knockout. The two bantamweights will fight each other later today at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Earlier this year McDonnell won a close decision and took Kameda's undefeated record. The rematch will be televised by Premier Boxing Champions on CBS fighters. The event is headlined by former world champion Anthony "The Dog" Dirrell (27-1-1, 22 KOs) taking on Mexico's Marco Antonio "El Veneno" Rubio (59-7-1, 51 KOs).
The first fight also took place in Texas. McDonnell was down in the third round and managed to come on strong in the late rounds to win the bout by a single point - 114-113 on all three cards.
Kameda wants to avoid the scorecards this time. He wants to apply the pressure, come forward and take McDonnell out inside the distance. McDonnell has never been stopped and both of his career defeats were close decisions.
Some do wonder if McDonnell is struggling a bit to make the division limit as he's been discussing the idea of moving up for several months. The second fight was set after Kameda exercised a contract clause for an immediate rematch.
"This time we have an even better plan than last time. I'm ready for my opponent's style and anything he can bring to the ring. I've studied McDonnell and I know his weaknesses. We're planning on taking him out this time. I won't stop until I have the stoppage," Kameda said.
"I thought I won last time and I plan to prove that I am the better fighter and the best at my weight. It was very close, but this time my power and strategy will be too much for him.We didn't get the win last time, but I'm lucky to have this opportunity just a few months later on national TV. It's a big fight for me and I need to win."
