Osaka, Japan - Nicaraguan boxer Daniel Diaz is very eager to get in the ring this Saturday against Japanese star Koki Kameda, the reigning "regular" bantamweight of the World Boxing Association.
"Daniel is strong, he looks great. In the first training session in Japan, he attracted ma lot of attention for his speed and how hard he hit he bags. As we go into the second day of work over here, everything is very good," said coach Gustavo Herrera.
After several minutes of warming up, Diaz jumped rope, shadow boxed and did four rounds on the mitts as he was monitored closely by his promoter Miguel Angel Arcia, who will assist him in the corner.
“Daniel is ready. He looks good, fast and in very good condition," said Arcia. "From what I've seen, I'm sure we will give Kameda a shock on Saturday."
Yesterday was engaging for Diaz, in view of the 15 hour time difference between Japan and Nicaragua. Diaz still made his morning run, then had breakfast and then went for a walk in this busy city, rested several hours and then went forward with his afternoon workout.
After an hour of training, Diaz weighed 119 pounds, just one above the official weight division limit.
"I waited seven years for this world title fight, and I will not miss. Kameda is a fast boxer, strong, but I'll give him a lot of problems and snatch the crown," said Diaz.
