Australian heavyweight Kali Meehan has challenged IBO cruiserweight champion Danny Green to a fight. Meehan has lashed out at Green for his recent farce of a fight with Paul Briggs, which ended in 29-seconds of the first round when Briggs went down from a glancing blow. Meehan called Green and his trainer Angelo Hyder a ''disgrace to boxing.''
''They're killing boxing,'' Meehan told The Sun-Herald. ''Green goes out and says that Anthony Mundine fights old men and bums and then he calls out someone who hasn't fought in three years. Everything Hyder does in boxing, it makes me sick. You can put that in the paper. They knew Briggs couldn't win the fight.
"I've lost all respect for Green. They come and get some guy three years out of the ring - what the hell is that? The people who came to watch it, they're his people. He should give them their money back. The Australian public deserve better than the rubbish the Green outfit serves up.''
Meehan has asked Green to step up to face a real fighter. He said a single blow will knock Green's head right off his shoulders. He wants to prove which of them is stronger, angry at some recent comments made by Green, who said he hits the gym pads harder than Meehan.
''Ever since he hooked up with Hyder, Green's changed … and just talks and talks like a broken record. If he wants a real fight, then I'll fight and teach him a lesson in boxing. His trainer even had the nerve to say he hits the pads harder than me. That's bullcrap, he can get stuffed. If I put one on his head it will come off," Meehan said.
