Kal Yafai will be sidelined for the foreseeable future after suffering a torn bicep in his latest victory in Liverpool last weekend.

Yafai defeated Michael Ramabeletsa on his debut at super-flyweight but picked up the injury in the second round of eight.

The former Team GB boxer will undergo surgery on Friday and has been ruled out of fighting on the Froch-Kessler undercard on May 25.

"Torn bicep, operation on Friday, gutted not to be fighting on April 20th & May 25th but be back soon to take some titles!" Yafai tweeted.

The 23-year-old has made giant strides since turning pro last summer after ne narrowly missed out on a place at the Olympics.

Eight of his six wins have come via stoppage but the injury news is likely delay a tilt at domestic honours until next year.
