WBA super flyweight champion Kal Yafai is still hoping to face former four division world champion Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez.

Yafai has no problem with heading over to the United States to take that fight.

Gonzalez has yet to return to the ring after suffering back to back defeats to current WBC super flyweight world champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai. The Thai puncher won a twelve round unanimous decision over Gonzalez last March, and then knocked him out cold in the fourth round of their September rematch.

Gonzalez had initially wanted to fight Yafai from the start, at last month's Superfly 2 event in Los Angeles, but then thought better of it and felt that he needed an easier fight to see where he's at, physically and mentally.

Yafai, who made the second successful defence of his WBA world title back in October, is waiting to receive a date for his third defense and then he hopes to get in the ring with Gonzalez in the fall.

"We accepted the 'Chocolatito' fight before but for whatever reason, they decided against it," Yafai told Sky Sports.

"Of course I am still desperate for it to happen, he's a legend of the sport and I want to test myself against the best. He's had those back-to-back losses so if he can come back and win well - I've heard he is fighting in May - then it sets it up perfectly for us.

"I've been told that I will probably be out again at the end of May myself and am just waiting for confirmation. I'm training full steam ahead and news should come soon."

Besides a showdown with Gonzalez, Yafai is also very interested in facing the other champions in his weight class.

"I want that unification fight, I need that big name opponent now," Yafai said. "I want to make my name in America.

"I was due to fight on a big super-fly card earlier this year but we had a few issues with it all. I'm still confident I can get on another, I'd love the chance to showcase my skills against the best. If I can make another defence of my title, hopefully, we can then get the Gonzalez fight and then we want Sor Rungvisai on the back of that."
