BoxingScene.com recently caught up with IBF junior middleweight champion Cornelius "K9" Bundrage.  The former Contender series participant has engaged in a war of worlds with contender Pawel "The Raging Bull" Wolak in recent weeks on this site.  Bundrage speaks about the possibility of facing Wolak, rumors of a potential fight against Ricardo Mayorga, and his idea for a junior middleweight tournament.

The first topic we discussed was a potential fight with Pawel Wolak who recently fought to a draw versus Delvin Rodriguez in a fight some are calling 2011's Fight of the Year.  Wolak has repeatedly called for a fight against Bundrage and has a spot reserved on the televised undercard of Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito's rematch that takes place on December 3rd.  When asked if Wolak is under consideration he said that a lot of fighters want a shot at his title. 

"I am interested in whatever fight makes the most sense.  Of course it has to make sense and it has to make dollars especially when you aren't the mandatory.  If you are the mandatory then I have to fight you to keep my belt.  There are a lot of people that want to fight me now because they want the opportunity to fight for the belt."
 
Bundrage's promoter Don King was recently in Ricardo Mayorga's home country of Nicargua.  The legendary promoter was putting feelers out to gauge interest in a possible clash between Bundrage and Mayorga.  BoxingScene has ran articles recently that stated that the IBF wouldn't sanction such a fight.  Bundrage doesn't think the IBF will have any issues with the fight. 

"I see that Mayorga wants to fight but I saw on BoxingScene that the IBF might not sanction that fight. I disagree with that.  I think they will sanction that fight because you got to remember that boxing is a business and they won't want to turn down a sanctioning fee."
 
The Detroit native went on to say that because he just fought his mandatory challenger (Sechew Powell), he should be able to fight just about anyone.  He thinks that Wolak's team may be trying to sabotage a fight with Mayorga so that they can get a shot at the title.  He also spoke on the importance of having a world championship. 

"I can fight whoever I want to fight.  I don't know if Top Rank put that out or what.  That is probably Top Rank saying that because they want their guy (Wolak) to fight for the belt.  Everybody wants the belt.  I heard before that Floyd Mayweather said that belts do nothing but collect dust but he had to get a belt to be who he is now and to make the money that he is making now.  Same thing as Manny Pacquiao or Muhammed Ali.  They had to get the belts before they made some big money.  I am just following in the footsteps of those guys.  You have to become world champion before you start to get your money.  That is what is happening with me.  I am in a good spot.  I am in the passenger's seat and Jesus Christ is driving me and my family is with me."
 
K9 also proposed his idea for a junior middleweight tournament.  He mentioned the success that Showtime has had with their Super 6 and bantamweight tournament.  He thinks a tournament in the junior middleweight division would be even more popular and suggests that HBO puts the tournament together. 

"Like I have said before, all unifications lead to K9.  You got the WBA champ who is Miguel Cotto.  You got the WBC champ which is Canelo (Alvarez) and you have the IBF champ which is K9 from season two of The Contender.  There are people who love me from all over the world.  You have some superstars in the junior middleweight divison.  What they need to do is have a tournament.  HBO needs to do a junior middleweight tournament like what Showtime is doing with the Super 6 and the bantamweight tournament.  Now the hottest divsions are the welterweight and junior middleweight divisions.  You can bring on whoever for the tournament and line 'em up.  I am ready for all of them.  They ain't ready for me."
 
Our conversation finished up with Bundrage giving his familiar closing, "Don't bark if you can't bite.  Jesus for Life!"
